My name is Gregory Alvarez, I have been using computers since I was 3 years old and I learned to program when I was 8. I speak fluently French, Spanish and English. My travels around the world led me to live in London, Madrid and Paris where I am currently residing. During my childhood, my father taught me electronic, robotic and IT. Since those days, I have invested my time in personal projects to learn and extend my knowledge in a multitude of fields. I am specialized in security and worked for the government with a security clearance. While I was at university I founded my first company. My favorites languages are C, Python and Bash. I play guitar, practice martial arts, basket ball and climbing. I believe, as Albert Einstein said, that you never fail until you stop trying.
I am an expert in IT security. I worked for the French Minister of Defense Police E-Crime Unit doing forensic and fingerprint analysis. I also was hired by Thales Group, a multinational defense company. My work consisted in designing governmental communication interception systems for the electronic warfare department. I had a confidential security clearance. In charge of a security laboratory, I worked during 3 years on secure communication technologies and cryptography. My work led me to invent a high speed symmetric encryption algorithm and a secure communication protocol without key-exchange, solving the problem of active interception attacks.
I have a long experience in optimization and high performance. While working at Packlink, the first startup in Spain to have received investment from Accel Partners, I affronted scalability and performance issues. We solved these problems implementing a Microservices Architecture, the same deployed at Netflix. Using an optimization technology I developed during my personal projects, I was able to improve their search engine's speed from 1.5 seconds per request to 200 nanoseconds (7 million times faster).
While I was at university, I co-founded my first company with a friend who studied at HEC. It was an exceptional experience where I discovered a lot about management, marketing, IT and startups. My associate and I learned a valuable knowledge from our experiences, books, courses from Stanford on entrepreneurship but also from mentors and CEOs who managed startups/companies. We did of course make a lot of mistakes, but in the end, I learned more during this 2 years than in my entire life.
If you're going through hell, keep going.

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.
- Ambrose Redmoon
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
- Mahatma Gandhi
Never, never, never give up.
- Winston Churchill
It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problem longer.
